A Comparison of prathom suksa 3 students' learning achievement, retention and attitude towards mathematics by using games and traditional exercises in the skill phase
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to compare the prathom suksa 3 students' learning achievement, retention and attitude towards Mathematics by using games and traditional exercises in the skill phase.The population were 89 students, 3 classes of Prathom Suksa 3 Students', studying in second semester of 1998 academic year at Wat chaiyapruksamala School in Talingchan District, Bangkok. The 2 classes of students which their average achievement score in Mathematics at the end of first semester of 1998 are nearly closed, were chosen as the sample. Then they were divided by sample random sampling into two groups, an experimental group using ga in the skill phase, the control group using traditional exercises in the skill phase.The instruments used in this research were constructed by the researcher and then approved by 5 specialists, they were 1) practiced games 2) Mathematics achievement test 3) Mathematics lesson plan 4) Students' attitude survey form. The collected data were statistically analyzed by using average, standard deviation and t - test.The research revealed that the students learning achievement and their retention towards Mathematics learned by using games and traditional exercises in the skill phase were not significantly different The students' attitude towards Mathematics between those two groups was significantly different at the .05 level. The students who learned by using games in the skill phase has better attitude towards Mathematics than the students who learned by using traditional exercises in the skill phase.
