Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study, the following means : (1) the personal factors
compared with absenteeism; (2) the level of organizational commitment; (3) the level of absenteeism
and (4) the relationship between organizational commitment and absenteeism. The sample size for
this study consisted of 150 employees from the production-line of a rubberwood furniture factory.
The questionnaires used for this research consisted of the following; An organizational commitment
questionnaires with 26 items using a rating scale with a reliability alpha coefficient of 0.9183 and an
absenteeism questionnaires with 5 items from a checklist. The statistical methods that were used in
and this research are as follow; percentages, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square and Spearman
correlation coefficient.
This results were as follows: For personal factors, the age, sex, length of working
time(years) , marital status and their families these factors had no significant effect on absenteeism.
Also employees had moderate level of organizational commitment. In addition the employees had a
low level of absenteeism. More over the overall organizational commitment, affective commitment
and continuance commitment had a negative correlation in relation to absenteeism. This was not
significant with a level of 0.05 and the normative commitment had a positive correlation. This was
not significant with a level of 0.05.
