Abstract:
The purpose of this study was two-fold : to study and compare the participation of the community in the management of secondary education in schools attached to offices of educational service areas in Yasothon Province as perceived by school administrators, and chairpersons of basic educational institution boards in Yasothon Province as they were grouped according to their positions and school sizes.
The sample group consisted of 22 school administrators, 248 teachers, and 8 chairpersons of the basic educational institution boards, which accounted for a total number of 278 subjects, selected by means of the stratified random sampling. The research instrument was fifty-four-item questionnaire with a Likert scale, which yielded the reliability value of .98. The data were analyzed by means of percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and F-test.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The administrators, teachers, and school board chairpersons perceived the community participation in the overall and individual aspects of the management of secondary education in schools to be at a moderate level.
2. Classified by their positions, the subjects perceived the community participation in this matter to be at a moderate level.
3. Classified by the size of their schools, they also found the community participation to be at a moderate level.
4. There was significant difference in the opinions regarding the community participation in the overall and individual aspects of the secondary education management among the administrators, teachers, and the school board chairpersons at the level of .05.
5. There was significant difference, at the level of .01, in the opinions regarding the community participation in the overall and individual aspects of the secondary education management among the administrators, teachers, and school board chairpersons whose school sizes were different.
