Abstract:
The purpose of this research were to study the management of the reading promotion projects in schools in Ubon Ratchathani educational Area 2 ad perceived by school administrators and teachers and to to compare their opinions regarding the management of the projects as they were classified by their positions, lengths of service, and school sizes.
The sample group of this study consisted of 475 school administrators and teachers attached to the Office of Ubon Ratchathani educational Area 2 : 148 administrators and 327 teachers, selected by means of the stratified random sampling using Krejcie and Morgan Table to determine the sample size. The research instrument was a fifty-nine-item questionnaire with a five-level Likert scale, which revealed the reliability value at .98. The statistical procedures employed in the data analysis included percentage, means, standard deviation, t-test, F-test, and the Scheffe method.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The management of the reading promotion project was found to be at a high level in all aspects.
2. The problems found in the management of the reading promotion project included the lack of supplying materials, modern technology, budget for book purchasing, and support from external organizations in the aspect of preparation; the lack of personnel dedication to the job due to their heavy working load in other job activities, coordination between teachers and parents, utilization of media in the library, and continuity of the project in the aspect of operation; the lack of project report to parents, superiors, and continuous follow-ups from the higher level of administration in the aspect of project report.
3. The results of the opinion comparisons between the administrators and teachers were as follows:
3.1 There was significant difference, at the level of .01, in the opinions between the administrators and the teachers regarding the management of the reading promotion project.
3.2 There was no significant difference in the opinions of the administrators and teachers whose lengths of service were different.
3.3 There was no significant difference in the opinions of the administrators and teachers whose schools were different in size
