Abstract: This paper presents the application of the Internet of things (IoT) paradigm for fault detection in an electrical machine. This is a method to identify device damage before scheduled maintenance or component deterioration. A generator model was created as a representative machine demonstration to study controlling and monitoring via IoT technology. The designed controller can regulate the rotor speed and display the vibration values of the generator during operation. In addition, it can detect damage to the rotor slot from a sensor signal installed inside the generator. All signals are sent to a Raspberry Pi processing board through an Arduino board. The data is then evaluated by a Python program and displayed on a screen. Moreover, it can be displayed on other monitors over the internet because the measured results are stored in a cloud system. The results found that the monitor can show the variable speed of the rotor by adjusting it via the program. Furthermore, it can display the fault detection of vibration values when the rotor axis is misaligned, as well as identify damaged slots. Therefore, the operator can always monitor and control the system on a screen or smartphone, both onsite and offsite, using IoT.
