Statistical analysis of academic performance in the chemistry laboratory course
Abstract:
In this research, academic performance in the Chemistry Laboratory course was analyzed through a visual statistical method. The total number of students enrolling in the course was 538 from the Bachelor of Science program in the Faculty of Science at Burapha University. All raw data (accumulated/examination/total scores, midterm/final examinations, lecturers, and others) were collected from the Registrar of Burapha University and the course coordinator. The data were analyzed through Box-and-Whisker plots against various variables such as gender, major, lecturers, and others. Comparison of critical values in the Box-and-Whisker plots, such as median, minimum, Q1, interquartile range (IQR), Q3, maximum, and shape, indicates which variables may affect students academic performance. These results will be valuable resources for the course coordinator and lecturers to find ways to improve teaching and learning activities and may result in better students academic performance. More analysis results in other variables will be discussed further
