Abstract:
The study consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province; 2) to explore the correlation between Sārāṇīyadhamma (Six States of Conciliation) and the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province; and 3) to study problems, obstacles, and suggestions about the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, with survey research serving as the quantitative method. The quantitative research sample consisted of 122 upper secondary school students of Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province. The Taro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient. The qualitative method employed in-depth interviews with 9 key informants, in which the obtained data were analyzed by content analysis and presented through frequency distribution tables of key informants to support the quantitative data."
From the study, the following results are found:
1) The promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system according to Sārāṇīyadhamma (Six States of Conciliation) for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province is overall at a high level ( = 3.98, S.D. = 0.19), while the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system in all five aspects for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province is overall at a high level ( = 3.86, S.D. = 0.17).
2) The overall correlation between Sārāṇīyadhamma (Six States of Conciliation) and the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province is correlated at a high level (r = .684**) with a statistical significance of 0.01 level; therefore, accepting the null hypothesis.
3) Problems and obstacles of the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province are found as follows: some students do not fully understand the principles of democratic governance; Because of the Covid-19 situation, which prevents the school from organizing activities, some students are disinterested in participatory political cultures.
The suggestions about the promotion of participatory local political culture under democratic system for the upper secondary school students in Ban Chetawan municipal demonstration school, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province are found as follows: Schools should aware students who behave based on democratic system; Books on the rights, liberty, and history of those who fought for liberty should be provided for students; Training to promote knowledge on participatory political cultures should be provided for students on a regular basis; Training to promote knowledge on the benefits on equality should be provided for students.
