Metamaterial-inspired microwave sensor for measurement of sugar concentration in sugar solution
Abstract:
This study introduces a metamaterial-based
microwave sensor for accurately measuring sugar
concentration in sugar solutions. The proposed
sensor is designed using a microstrip line coupled
with a ground-etched complementary split-ring
resonator (CSRR) to enhance sensitivity.
Additionally, a novel structure of a meander line
integrated with L-shaped elements (MLL) is
employed as the metamaterial within the sensing
region to optimize performance. Simulated results
indicate that the transmission coefficient (S21) at 1.73
GHz increases from -22.7566 dB to -22.1572 dB as the
sugar concentration varies from 0 to 30 °Brix.
Furthermore, the regression model developed from
these measurements demonstrates a high level of
accuracy, as evidenced by an R² value of 0.9977 and a
root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.01382, thereby
confirming the reliability of the proposed sensing
method.
