Abstract: The purpose of this study was 1) to study the function of final Burmese particles and 2) to analyze the classification of Burmese suffixed particles used in Hinthada University, Irrawaddy, Myanmar. The qualitative method was used for this research. The researcher interviewed five lecturers who work at Hinthada University, Irrawaddy, Myanmar, for the research tools. The researcher compiled data from various sources such as books, journals, theses, dissertations, magazines, online resources, and notes from native speakers in Hinthada, Irrawaddy, Myanmar. These sources were thoroughly reviewed and analyzed as part of the research process. The collected data specifically focused on final particles in Burmese words, with the in-depth interview results being presented in their original form. Additionally, the speech of indigenous people served as a primary source of information. The documents were carefully examined to gather relevant insights, considering factors like the gender and status of the speakers, the level of intimacy, and politeness. These aspects were taken into account to interpret the usage of final particles. The choice of final particles in Burmese words used in Hinthada, Irrawaddy, and Myanmar depends on the objectives, situation, and emotions involved, encompassing statements, questions, requests, persuasion, and commands. The results of the study were as follows: After analyzing the documents, the researcher found that Burmese final particles reveal a comprehensive understanding of their usage in the Burmese language. The study highlights various final particles and their specific functions. For instance, particles like [byà], [bya], and [nɔ] are used in statements, positive answers, and seeking approval or permission, respectively. Some particles, such as [bæ], [pà], and [pɑ], emphasize future actions, confirmations, and intentions. Females use gender-specific particles like [ʃiñ] and [hɛ] to make statements, express negativity, or convey appreciation. Other particles, including [dà pɑ], [le], and [dɒ mà], are employed in different contexts to indicate intimacy, provide positive responses, or communicate for understanding. Furthermore, the researcher's exploration of suffixed particles reveals their role in altering word classes, emphasizing meaning, and modifying words. Particles like 'tà', 'tɑʊ', 'pàt', 'lot', 'mot', 'most lot', and 'pe' are identified as instrumental in adding emphasis to verbs, adjectives, and nouns, as well as restricting the meaning of a verb. In-depth interviews conducted by the researcher further underscore the significance of final particles in enhancing sentence clarity and overall purpose. The discussions highlighted the importance of using these particles correctly for effective communication. The suffixed particles were also acknowledged for their capacity to modify word classes, emphasize meaning, and modify words within the specific context of Hinthada University, Irrawaddy, Myanmar. To elaborate on these findings, the researcher presented the results obtained from documentary data and in-depth interviews in the fourth chapter of the study. The chapter comprehensively explains Burmese final and suffixed particles and their impact on effective communication in the Burmese language. The study concludes with suggestions for further comparison and future research, encouraging the exploration of these particles in different linguistic contexts.
