Abstract:
Thai chili landraces are important genetic resources that contain unique aroma and flavor desirable for fresh consumption and food industry. Cluster analysis divided the chili landraces into two distinct groups according to species ie. Capsicum annuum and C. frutescens. A very narrow genetic base was detected within each Capsicum species. Genome wide association analysis identified seven SNPs significantly associated with the capsaicinoids content. Five of which located close to the genes involving in the capsaicinoids biosynthesis pathway. A homozygous C. baccatum population derived from a cross PBC80 x CA1316 comprised 97 recombinant inbred lines was assessed for anthracnose resistance and identifying QTLs corresponding to chili anthracnose resistance. QTL analysis identified three QTLs for anthracnose resistance. The RA80f6_r1 was a major QTL responsible for ripe fruit resistance and located on the Capsicum Chr 4 spanning 4.63 cM or 123 Mbp. The RA80f6_g1 and RA80f6_g2 were major and minor QTLs respectively responsible for mature green fruit resistance. The mature green QTLs located on Chr 8 and 3 that spanned 1.28 cM/28 Mbp and 0.34 cM/8.9 Mbp respectively. Gene annotation revealed that the two major QTLs for ripe and mature green fruit resistances housed 85 and 63 genes with defence functions respectively.
