Metamorphic evoluation of basement rock at Khao Chong Insi, Huai Krachao district, Kanchanaburi province

Abstract: Basement rocks of Thailand mainly distributes as north-south trending along the western edge of the country. One offset belt occurs at Chonburi and Rayong Provinces, eastern part of the country. This study focus on a basement unit exposes at Khao Chong Insi, Huai Krachao District, Kanchanaburi Province. On the basis of petrographic observation, all collected samples were categorized into threes group including grt-bt-sil gneiss, granite and calc-silicate. The bulk rock chemistry of selected samples were used for thermodynamic modelling using Perplex program and also constrain for their type of protoliths. The results show that most metamorphic rocks have experienced the conditions of approximately 610-750 °C and 3.8-6.2 Kbar. Protoliths of these samples are mainly pelitic rocks (shale or mudstone) and quartzo-felsparthic rock (i.e. granite or sandstone), however, one sample has been calcareous rock before the metamorphism. U-Pb ages were obtained from analysis of Laser ablation multi-collector inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-MC-ICPMS). Concordia curves of these samples were plot using the Isoplot program. Three dating samples are grt-bt gneiss, grt-bt-sil gneiss and granite. The result from grt-bt-sil shows the U-Pb zircon age of 212.0±3.0 Ma. This age could be Triassic and is supported by the event of subduction between the Indochina plate and Shan-Thai plate. In addition, the grt-bt-sil gneiss and grt-bt gneiss show U-Pb zircon ages around 521±13, 563±12, 633±21, 854±17, 952±35, 1796±20 and 2059±65 Ma. The author prefer to conclude that these ages probably reflect an inherit ages. U-Pb zircon age of granite is approximately 75.77±1.4 Ma, which could be related to the subduction between the West Burma Plate and Shan-Thai plate.
