Types, Development Trends and Inheritance Strategies of Ice Sculptures as the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Northeast China from 2018 to 2022
Abstract:
The purposes of this research are to analyze the types of works, artistic characteristics, and cultural connotations in Northeast China from 20182022, to analyze the development trend of ice sculpture works in Northeast China, and to explore the strategies for the inheritance of ice sculpture as an intangible cultural heritage. The 20182022 ice sculpture works of five creators were the research objects. The research methods were document analysis and interviews. The interview form and the questionnaire were used as research tools. The results of the study are as follows: According to the analysis of ice sculpture works type, artistic characteristics, and cultural connotation found, ice sculpture types can be divided into three categories: round sculpture, bas-relief, and openwork sculpture. Artistic characteristics are contemporary, nationalities, characters, abstraction, temporary and easy to melt, thematic diversity, a three-dimensional sense of strong, transparent effect, good details of the performance, and other characteristics that present a rich ornamental and artistic value. Utilizing the transparent characteristics of ice to create unique light and shadow effects can express a mysterious charm and a sense of three-dimensionality and space. It also shows reflections on nature and humanity, which are the perfect combination of three-dimensional and flat sense and maintain the spirit of historical inheritance and innovative development. Cultural connotation reflects the aesthetic pursuit and aesthetic trend of the Northeast region. These works are based on ice and snow styles, folk traditions, natural themes, historical subjects, and folk crafts and incorporate the cultural elements of the Northeast region, as well as vividly demonstrate the unique charm and rich connotation of the Northeast region.
According to the analysis of the development trend of ice, sculpture works in the northeast region, it is found that the type of ice sculpture works in the northeast in 20182022, in general, is mainly craving sculpture, followed by relief sculpture and other types of ice sculpture, respectively, and the overall number of ice sculptures is growing. The development stage is divided into three stages: the early stage, the development stage, and the modern stage. According to the interviews, it is found that, due to the development of the time's ice, sculpture creators do not only focus on maintaining the basic characteristics of the work, such as being brittle, translucent, and bright but also pay more attention to the expression of ideas and emotions. They pay attention to national elements and local culture and display the national style on the ice sculptures. The creators will be happy and proud when their works are recognized by audiences. At the same time, they fully hope that in the future, more people will understand traditional culture and the younger generation will join this art. When exploring new ways of communication and thinking about the problems in the development of ice sculpture and the inheritance, combined with the results of the interview on the ways to improve the inheritance of ice carving art in the Northeast region and the strategies for the inheritance of ice sculpture as an intangible cultural heritage, the strategies are as follows: 1.) Integration of traditional and modern technology; 2.) Establishment of systematic inheritance mechanisms; 3.) Expansion of marketing and promotion channels; 4.) Strengthening of digitalization and new media publicity; 5.) Strengthening of international exchanges and cooperation; and 6.) Strengthening of policy support and financial investment.
