Abstract:
Intention to stay (IS) of professional nurses (PN) is lack of knowledge for human resource management in hemodialysis. This cross-sectional study aims to explain IS, and to investigate the factors associated with IS among PN in private hemodialysis unit (PHD), Bangkok area. A sample of 232 (89.58%) of the nurses working as full time in PHD were selected by stratified random sampling. Data were collected during July to August, 2020, by a self-administered questionnaire (IS scale alpha = 0.96, QWL scale alpha=0.90). The descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, independent t-test and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the IS and quality of work life (QWL) among the PN were at high level (Mean = 3.73, Mean = 4.00). The factors associated with the IS were marital status, ages, type of unit and duration of work (p-value <0.05). Overall QWL (r = 0.571) and the four dimensions of QWL were associated with the IS (r = 0.285, r = 0.487, r = 0.496, r = 0.568, p-value<0.01 respectively). The work world dimension, work context dimension and marital status were the predictors that could jointly explained 37.0% of the variance in the IS (Adjusted R2 = 0.370). In summary, the managers of PHD may consider the QWL that can increase IS and retain the nurses to continuously work in the hemodialysis units.
