Abstract:
As the second great wave of technological innovations opens up new possibilities for healthcare
in East and South East Asia, what is the level of acceptance by the patients, especially the younger
generation of the digital age in Asia, especially East and South East Asia where the culture is hierarchical in
nature?
This research asked 100 students from East Asian Taiwan and 100 students from South East Asia
Thailand. It was found that when it comes to sensitive personal matters such as ones health and
wellbeing, the South East Asian Thai students are more casual and readily seek health advice from social
media and online sources, whereas the East Asian Taiwan students entrust their health and wellness to
professional doctors both Western and Traditional medicine, even though they also seek online
information. Advice from senior family members is highly trusted by both Thai and Taiwan students.
This suggests that the strengths and weaknesses of disruptive technology in wellness needs to
be explored further, as the medical industry is also actively persuading higher acceptance of online
technological medical advice, due to the efficiency, cost and reach.
