Abstract:
This thesis aims to investigate the characteristics of Tam-rap (handbook) and the literary features of Khlonglilitsuphap appearing in Khlong Lilit Suphap Tamrap Phra Boromracha Phisek Sappadama Ratcha Maha Chakriwong. The result shows that Khlong Lilit Suphap Tamrap Phra Boromracha Phisek Sappadama Ratcha Maha Chakriwong is a literary work which is a handbook including the features of royal ceremony handbook, the features of royal ceremony memo, and the features of the kings eulogy. Due to the combination of three types of writing, this work becomes the unique handbook. The combination of three types of writing supports this work to present the content relating to the characteristics of the writings. The author systematically presents three parts of the content. Firstly, the Prelude includes the introduction and invocation. Secondly, the Content contains the features of three types of writing: 1) the features of the handbook providing the knowledge of the coronation and providing the additional knowledge to define the work, 2) the features of the royal ceremony memo including the memo of feeling, the memo of occurred event decorating with imagination, and the memo of the authors direct experience, and 3) the features of the kings eulogy including the king as the demigod, the king as the king of righteousness, and the king as the emperor. Lastly, the Epilogue includes the final part and the additional part. For the literary strategies, the verse forms of Khlongsuphap and Raisuphap are combined as Lilitsuphap. The author mainly adopts Khlongsuphap to set the story while adopts Raisuphap to record the content of religious rite and to emphasize the form of Khlong. Furthermore, the author adopts the art of language to build four types of literary aesthetic: the uses of sound, the king terms, the figurative expressions, and the poetic license narration to complete the aesthetic to the work. In conclusion, Khlong Lilit Suphap Tamrap Phra Boromracha Phisek Sappadama Ratcha Maha Chakriwong is the unique handbook composed by adopting the verse forms to present the concept and the content of the king's eulogy. These features help this work to be remarkable, and also set the goal of presenting its own concept and content which are different from the other handbooks.
