Abstract:
The aims of this study 1.) were to investigate the functions, history, contextual space, its potential including contemporary environment of the old city moat, and expected projects 2.) To study the factors that cause problems. Obstacles to the development of the Khu Mueang moat. 3.) in order to find out the factor of solutions for improving the old city moat or well known as the Khu Mueang moat which did not reduce the historical and cultural values of the people living in the canal area. The data were used from documents as a secondary data, and an individual interview as a primary data. The instrument for collecting primary data were 60 in-depth interviews for local residents, temporary user, local authorities, and researching for knowledge to understand the concepts, theories, research, regulations and relevant laws. The case study were divided into 5 areas to study each one more convenient and detailed. According to the results, 1.) effluent was discharged into the canal by community and 2.) moderate to low-income neighborhoods, 3.) the canal was used as a transition area; mass transit, land, water, and underground rail systems in the future. Moreover, there are the same problems of the old city moat and the old cities such as decayed area, circulation, slums, commercial district, sluggish district, as well as the policy and area management of government agencies, promoting the area as a public transport links, community identity, connecting public and private paths, selecting the right trees to plant, Promoting the quality of people's life in the community.
