The effects of inquiry method 7E learning cycle with SQ4R reading teaching for developing biology learning achievement and ability to read of 12 grade stdents
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study the biology learning achievement and reading abilities of grade 12 students on the topic of ecosystem and population by using the inquiry method 7E learning cycle with the SQ4R reading technique before and after learning, and in comparison to a 70 percent criterion. The sample consisted of 43 grade 12 students from the science and mathematics program at Sriracha School during the first semester of the academic year 2024, obtained using the cluster random sampling technique. The research instruments used for the study included the learning management plan of the inquiry method 7E learning cycle with the SQ4R reading technique, a biology achievement test, and a biology reading abilities test. The statistics used for data analysis were mean, standard deviation, dependent samples t-test, and one sample t-test. The findings were summarized as follows: 1) The biology scores of grade 12 students who received the inquiry method 7E learning cycle with the SQ4R reading technique on the topic of ecosystem and population were higher after learning than before learning, and the after-learning scores were higher than the 70 percent criterion at a statistical significance level of .05. 2) The biology reading abilities of grade 12 students who received the inquiry method 7E learning cycle with the SQ4R reading technique on the topic of ecosystem and population were higher after learning than before learning, and the after-learning reading abilities were higher than the 70 percent criterion at a statistical significance level of .05.
