Abstract:
Road construction projects in Bang Mae Nang Municipality, Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province were obstructed by various problems, causing the work not to be completed on time. This research had a purpose of finding solutions to the problems that cause delays in the road construction projects using a qualitative research methodology. The data was collected from focus group discussions of 10 people to identify and prioritize the causes of the delays in road construction. In-depth interviews were made with 20 people from related governmental officials and engineers of the contractors for information to solve problems. The fishbone diagram was used to find causes of the problems. The results showed that the interviewees had opinions about the problems and causes of delays in road construction of Bang Mae Nang Municipality in 4 main categories: 1) workers were absent from work without justifiable reasons. 2) machine operators lacked of skills and work experiences. 3) capabilities assessment of the contractor was not done before signing the contracts. And 4) material disbursement control was not used. These 4 categories could be used to develop preventive measures and solutions to create guidelines for quality control and defect reduction in order to prevent delays in road construction of Bang Mae Nang Municipality.
