Abstract:
The objectives of the study consisted of 1) to study the principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhism and psychology; 2) to synthesize the principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhist Psychology; and 3) to present the principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhist psychology. The study was a qualitative research in nature, using an in-depth interview to collect data from 17 key informants as experts in research methodology, psychology, Buddhism and the Institute of Willpower, selected by a purposive method, and a focus group discussion with 24 students in order to obtain empirical data according to research regulations and methods. A content analysis was employed for analyzing data.
The findings of the study were as follows:
1. The principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhism and psychology is the study of the mind, mental factors, corporeality and nirvana as the natural conditions necessary for learning the matter and mind interrelated because the mind as an element of perceiving the emotions as an anchor on which the mind has been developed by meditation to be purified by seeing nature as it really is for the development of the common man's mind into a Kalyana man's mind and the noble man's mind respectively.
2. The synthesis of the principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhist Psychology had the index from the reflections of students in the institute and behaviors expressed out during studying and while participating in activities with others with a smile and joy, effort, happiness during studying, responsibility in duty and accepting and listening to the opinions and suggestions of others, being able to control oneself, being more mindful, having doctrines for earning living with a good mind resulted in physical, mental, emotional and social developments with a good thought and awareness in the development of life based on Buddhist Psychology.
3. The principles of meditation teaching of the Institute of Willpower by Somdet Phra Nyanavajirodom (Viriyang Sirintharo) for the development of based on Buddhist psychology were considered as an integration of threefold training including Sila (Morality), Smadhi (Concentration) and Panya (Wisdom) resulted in the institutes students had knowledge and understanding of the principles of right meditation by themselves as the body of right view according to the institute criteria to accumulate willpower being used in daily life as the development of mind and wisdom that is the highest goal in Buddhism.
