Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to compare the yield of cassava planted by regular cutting taken from field grown cassava plants that cultivated for many generations (stem cutting) and rejuvenated cutting taken from plants of the same varieties derived from tissue culture. The experiment was carried out for three years, the first-year experiment to compare yielding ability and multiply planting stakes for compare yield and adaptation in the second- and third-year experiments. The experiment was conducted in 9x2x2 factorial in RCBD with 4 replications. Treatments were 9 cassava varieties (Rayong 1, Rayong 5, Rayong 7, Rayong 9, Rayong 11, Rayong 72, Kasetsart 50, Huay Bong 60 and Huay Bong 80), two plant materials (regular cutting taken from field grown cassava plants and rejuvenated cutting taken from first-year experiment) and two experiment sites (Khao Hin Sorn Research Station and Tapioca Development Institute) in the second- and third-year experiments. The first-year experiments results showed that fresh root yield of cassava planting by stem cutting higher than rejuvenated cutting, due to stem cutting had higher survival (100 and 81.9 percent). However, the fresh root yield per plant and the plant material factors were not significant difference. As well as the experiment results in the second- and third-year, the cultivation of cassava with stem cutting and rejuvenated cutting were not statistically difference, including all other traits in experiment. The cause of the experiment wasnot significant difference because that cassava planting by stem cutting in Thailand doesn't have factors influence the decreasing of cassava yield, such as cassava disease be prevalent by planting material or those factors dont result the decreasing of cassava yields significantly. Therefore, when the outbreak of the disease and the production of cassava has decreased significantly. Tissue culture techniques or meristem culture is one way to refresh the yielding ability of cassava and get juvenile stake that free from viruses including other pathogens.
