Application of Analytical Hierarchy Process (APH) for machine replacement decision making in Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO)
Abstract:
The objective of this research was to prioritize decision making criteria for machine replacement in Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO). This study applied the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to facilitate machine prioritization of machine replacement criteria which consisted of three main categories including maintenance, equipment effectiveness, and cost with a total of 9 sub-criteria. The objective, criteria, and alternatives were firstly defined to set the hierarchy of the machine replacement analysis. Then the questionnaire was designed to collect pairwise comparison from the experts to determine weighted score. After that, the performance score for each criterion was calculated, and criteria ranking was made for machine replacement decision. Results showed that accumulated maintenance cost was the first ranked criterion which has the highest weighted score followed by availability and quality which ranked the second and the third, respectively. The result implies that drug manufacturing in GPO focuses on the quality and availability of production. Moreover, the machines should be replaced when the accumulated breakdown cost is nearly or equal to the first cost of the particular machine.
