Abstract:
This quantitative research aimed to study the locals participation in community waste management as well as influencing factors on the participation, and explore the problems and obstacles in conducting the research, including gathering recommendations on local's participation regarding waste management of Kaeng Sian Municipality. Data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires to 359 households, residents of the area. The acquired data was analyzed by Descriptive Statistics, including Mean, Standard Deviation and One-way Analysis of Variance. The findings suggest that locals participated less in community waste management, based on, social status, occupation, resident, years of living in the community, frequencies of participation in Municipality activities, and perceived news in community waste management. Main problems affecting community waste management were that people did not receive news on waste management from the public sector as thoroughly as it should have been, not only the waste situation, but also the correct way to separate waste. Furthermore, there were insufficient trashcans to support the increasing amount of wastes from people, also, most people spent time raising their families that they hardly had enough time to participate in Municipality activities related to waste management. This study recommends that 1) Arranging activities to educate the locals on the waste problems and creating awareness on the environmental impact through training and encouraging people's participation in planning, problems analysis, operation, results assessing and monitoring, including motivating the locals to learn from example areas how to solve waste problems successfully, open wide to new perspective and learning process. 2) people's participation by conducting publicity through various media such as broadcast tower accessible to all locals in the area
