Abstract:
The purposes of this research were 1. to study the process of Digital Sculpting Character (DSC) for undergraduate student and, 2. to develop of the DSC activities for undergraduate student. This study used research and development methodology. The samples were purposive sampling, divided into 4 groups, comprising: Seven experts in digital character design and creation, Seven Digital Sculpture Character instructors, Two higher education institution in 3D computer graphics course and, Ten undergraduate students who enrolled in 3D computer graphics course. The research instruments were teaching observation form, questionnaire, structured interview form and, satisfaction assessment form. Quantitative data analysis was based on the determination of the average, percentage, frequency, standard deviation and qualitative data analysis was based on content analysis. The results of research could be concluded as follows. 1. Instructional management for the DSC in 3D computer graphics course from observation form included 4 main components, namely: 1.1 Teaching preparation; the instructors readiness, instructional media for its content, computer graphic lab, online instructional ascertainment such as media content, specific, tutorial and, full complete of 3D digital character. 1.2 Teaching process; organizing the teaching content to create workpieces, ranging from teaching basic knowledge to creating workpieces by creatively applying instructions through the teaching methods in each aspect. 1.3 Teaching operation with instructional media; allowing the students to participate and group solving problem. 1.4 Students' behaviors; students' attention during teaching both positive and negative aspects. 2. The process and teaching methods of the DSC covered all five aspects consisted of; 2.1 DSC design, 2.2 DSC design analysis, 2.3 Creation and decoration, 2.4 Photorealistic and, 2.5 Evaluation. The instructional method involved of lecture, analytical, discussion, demonstration and inquiry procedure. 3. The Digital Sculpting Character Activities Model (DSCAM) included sequence of the content from beginning thru advance to develop students skill by their own, master their DSC design in specific time frame under their own creativities and the conceptual validities. The results of activity quality assurance audit by 3 experts were at high level. Meanwhile, the overall activities satisfaction after the experiment revealed at high level (x̄ = 4.33, S.D. = 0.49). The most satisfaction was the instruction content, more knowledge gained about the DSC. (x̄ = 4.80, S.D. = 0.40).
