Development of the English for hotel curriculum based on Asean common competency standards and content and language integrated learning approach for undergraduate English major students

Abstract: The Purposes of this research were to develop and to study the implementation results of the English for hotel curriculum based on ASEAN common competency standards and content and language integrated learning approach for undergraduate English major students. The researcher followed the research and development methodology in 4 steps as follows: 1) the process of studying information and synthesis of basic information related to creating an English for hotel curriculum ; 2) the process of designing the curriculum and taking the developed curriculum to 7 specialists to consider the quality of the curriculum ; 3) the curriculum implement process. The sample group were 33 of third year English major students, Faculty of Liberal Arts, University of Phayao. The results were measured and evaluated using the listening-speaking skill assessment form and the functional competency assessment form ; and 4) the evaluation and curriculum improvement process by inquiring the satisfaction towards the curriculum of the students who were the same group of students as phase 3. Then the results were compiled and improved the components of the English for hotel curriculum to be more appropriate. The research results can be summarized as follows: 1. The English for hotel curriculum, developed by researcher, consisted of 8 components: 1) principles of the curriculum ; 2) objectives of the curriculum ; 3) course description ; 4) learning content ; 5) curriculum structures and learning units ; 6) learning activities ; 7) learning materials ; and 8) evaluation and assessment by using the period of organizing activities according to the learning content of all 5 units for 15 weeks, totaling 60 hours, consisting of 15 lesson plans. The overall quality assessment of the curriculum was accurate and proper at the highest level. 2. The results of the implementation of the English for hotel curriculum revealed that 1) the students' listening-speaking skills after studying were higher than before using the English for hotels curriculum and was higher than the criteria of 60%, 2) the students' functional competency after studying was higher than before using the English for hotel curriculum and was higher than the criteria of 60%, and 3) the overall satisfaction of the students with the English for hotels curriculum was at a high level.

Abstract: การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาและศึกษาผลการใช้หลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมโดยใช้มาตรฐานสมรรถนะพื้นฐานอาเซียนและแนวคิดการบูรณาการเนื้อหากับภาษา สำหรับนิสิตปริญญาตรี สาขาภาษาอังกฤษ ผู้วิจัยได้ดำเนินการตามระเบียบวิธีวิจัยและพัฒนาใน 4 ขั้นตอน ดังนี้ 1) ขั้นตอนการศึกษาข้อมูลและการสังเคราะห์ข้อมูลพื้นฐานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการสร้างหลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรม 2) ขั้นตอนการออกแบบหลักสูตร และนำหลักสูตรที่พัฒนาขึ้นไปให้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ จำนวน 7 ท่าน พิจารณาหาคุณภาพของหลักสูตร 3) ขั้นตอนการทดลองใช้หลักสูตรฯ โดยผู้วิจัยได้กำหนดกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ นิสิตสาขาภาษาอังกฤษ ชั้นปีที่ 3 คณะศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา จำนวน 33 คน เพื่อทดลองใช้หลักสูตร และมีการวัดและประเมินผลโดยใช้แบบประเมินทักษะการฟัง-พูด และแบบประเมินสมรรถนะการทำงานตามหน้าที่ และ4) ขั้นตอนการประเมินและปรับปรุงหลักสูตร โดยการสอบถามความพึงพอใจที่มีต่อหลักสูตรฯ ของนิสิตซึ่งเป็นนิสิตกลุ่มเดียวกับขั้นตอนที่ 3 แล้วนำผลที่ได้มาประมวลและปรับปรุงองค์ประกอบต่าง ๆ ของหลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมฯ ให้มีความเหมาะสมมากยิ่งขึ้น ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1. การพัฒนาหลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมฯ ที่ผู้วิจัยพัฒนาขึ้น มีทั้งหมด 8 องค์ประกอบ คือ 1) หลักการของหลักสูตร 2) วัตถุประสงค์ของหลักสูตร 3) คำอธิบายรายวิชา 4) สาระการเรียนรู้ 5) โครงสร้างหลักสูตรและหน่วยการเรียนรู้ 6) กิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ 7) สื่อการเรียนรู้ และ 8) การวัดและการประเมินผลการเรียนรู้ โดยใช้ระยะเวลาในการจัดกิจกรรมตามสาระการเรียนรู้ทั้ง 5 หน่วย เป็นเวลา 15 สัปดาห์ รวมทั้งสิ้น 60 ชั่วโมง ประกอบด้วยแผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ 15 แผน การประเมินคุณภาพของหลักสูตรในภาพรวมมีความถูกต้องและความเหมาะสมอยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด 2. ผลการใช้หลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมฯ พบว่า 1) นิสิตมีทักษะการฟัง-พูดหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนโดยใช้หลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมฯ และสูงกว่าเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 2) นิสิตมีสมรรถนะการทำงานตามหน้าที่หลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนโดยใช้หลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษ เพื่อการโรงแรมฯ และสูงกว่าเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 และ 3) นิสิตมีความพึงพอใจต่อหลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมฯ โดยภาพรวมอยู่ในระดับมาก
