The Development of Computerized Diagnostic Test in Mathematics Learning on Fraction for Prathomsuksa 5 Students under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were 1) to construct a computerized diagnostic test in mathematics learning on fractions for Prathomsuksa 5 students under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2, 2) to validate the computerized diagnostic test in mathematics learning on fractions for Prathomsuksa 5 students under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2; and 3) to study the results of the computerized diagnostic test in mathematics learning on fraction for Prathomsuksa 5 students under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2. The sample consisted of 718 Prathomsuksa 5 students from 24 schools under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 in the first semester of academic year 2020 selected by stratified random sampling. There were six diagnostic tests used as the instruments as follows: 1) Fraction Comparison, 2) Plus Fraction, 3) Minus Fraction, 4) Multiplied Fraction, 5) Divide Fraction and 6) Problem Fraction. The research instruments were used for three times. The statistics used for analyze the data were percentage, mean and standard deviation. The statistics used to investigate the quality of the test included the content validity by using consistency index value of Rovinelli and Hambleton, the difficulty index (p), the discrimination index (r) by using B- Index of Brennan, and the reliability using Lovett's method.
The results showed that:
1. The computerized diagnostic test in mathematics learning on fraction for
Prathomsuksa 5 students under Buriram Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 comprised six tests with 62 items in total.
2. Regarding the quality of the test, the content validity was at 0.95 -1.00. The first implementation had the difficulty index (p) of .19.90 and the discrimination index (r) of .09.76. The second implementation had the difficulty index (p) of .17 - .80 and the discrimination index (r) of .17 - .67. For the third implementation, the difficulty index (p) was .41.72, the discrimination index (r) was .33 .77 and the reliability level was 0.71 -0.83.
3. The results of the use of computerized diagnostic test in mathematics learning on fraction for Prathomsuksa 5 students was found to be an easy-to-use program. Teachers can install the program on their own, the tests be made conveniently, save paper, and have the results of the program were reported properly, and quickly. Moreover, students can immediately know the results of the test. However paper must be used for taking the test and some old computers that do not support the program take a long time to download. Besides, teachers can diagnose the students' performance in which from the test in which the most founded problems were: 1. Fractal comparisons in which the students do not equlize the parts before comparing, 2. Fractal addition in which the students add the numerator with the numerator, the denominator with the denominator, 3. Fractal subtraction in which the students take the numerator minus the numerator, the denominator minus the denominator, 4. Fractional multiplication in which the students invert fractions into multiplier parts and then multiplying them, 5. Fractal division in which the students change the division sign into multiplication without taking the numerators into denominator and 6. Fractional problem in which the students do not understand the principle of solving the addition and subtraction problem.
