Synthesis and chemical binding study of tripodal cholic acid-based molecular baskets
Abstract:
Cholesterol and β-D-glucopyranose are indicators for heart disease and diabetes, respectively. Both compounds are greatly different in polarity; thus the design of receptor for binding both substrates is very challenging. Cholic acid was chosen as part of our amphiphilic receptors because it consists of not only hydrophilic alpha face, but also hydrophobic beta face. Binding study by 1H NMR titration of all protected hosts, formylated compounds 86, 91a, 92, and 93 due to unfortunately unsuccessful hydrolysis, showed no positive result to both guests in a variety of the solvent polarity (0-80% MeOD-d4:CDCl3), but slightly to halides and nitrate in 1:1 model.
