Systematics of the genus platybaetis (Ephemeroptera : Baetidae) in Thailand

Abstract: The systematics of the genus Platybaetis were studied in 16 sampling sites in Thailand. Total of 246 nymphs were collected and the last instar larvae were reared in laboratory until the emergences of imago. Association of the larval stage and adult stage were investigated. Morphological description and illustration of each species are provided. Larvae and adult of 3 species of the genus Platybaetis were associated and identified (Platybaetis bishopi, Platybaetis sp.1 and Platybaetis sp.2). Platybaetis bishopi were found in southern and western of Thailand, Platybaetis sp.1 were found in central of Thailand while Platybaetis sp.2 were found in northern and northeastern of Thailand. The DNA barcoding of mtCOI were studied in 14 specimens from 9 sampling sites. Results tentative one more species (Platybaetis sp.3), which genetic distance was difference 13% from Platybaetis sp.1. and the morphological data and phylogenetic analysis confirmed that Platybaetis sp.1 and Platybaetis sp.2 are new species.
