Analysis of selective leadership qualities of business students at MUIC
Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Global Leadership Development course delivered to MUIC business students during 2010-2017. The influence of student characteristics, traits, leading styles, behaviors, and their relationships with leadership effectiveness is also assessed. The total population of students under analysis is 621. Factor Analysis was used to reduce 35 factors into 12 meaningful components and three isolated factors that explain about 72 percent of effective leadership qualities. These three factors, resiliency, ethics, and assertiveness, were used as response variables in the multiple regression analyses in the next stage. Descriptive analysis of the 621 students shows that female and male students presented in a ratio of 52: 48 percent. The ratio of students with Thai, international high school, and foreign exchange backgrounds was 45:45:10 percent, respectively. The proportion of students' birth orders in their families among first, middle, last, and only child was 41:19:13:26 percent, respectively. Seventy-two percent of students' parents were entrepreneurs. The three regression models all yielded statistically significant results, which were higher than 0.7 R2. The results of regressing 12 factor-scores with 3 dependent variables indicate that MUIC business students are groomed to be effective leaders in terms of resiliency, ethics, and assertiveness.
