Abstract:
The study entitled An Application of Saṅgahavatthu to Promote the Community Participation in Waste Bank Management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate an application of Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province; 2) to analyze an application of Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province; 3) to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province classified by personal factors; and 4) to propose the guidelines for applying Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province.
The study employed a mixed-method research design in which qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews and categorized according to interview points. The quantitative data were obtained using questionnaires sent to 250 civil registration residents in Ban Nong Mai Kaen, Village No. 6 and No. 8, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province. The Taro Yamane formula was used to estimate sample size, and a group sample of 153 people was chosen. The acquired data were examined by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, f-test, One-Way ANOVA, Least Significant Difference (LSD).
From the study, the following results are found:
1) From analyzing an application of Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, it is found to be overall at a high level (x̄ = 4.158). When each aspect is considered, the aspect with the highest level is Piyavācā (kindly speech) with a mean equal to 4.188, followed by Samānattatā (even and equal treatment) with a mean equal to 4.158, while Dāna (giving) is at the least level with a mean of 4.141, respectively.
2) From comparing the opinions of people towards an application of Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, it is found that people of different ages, educational levels, and incomes have difference in opinions with a statistical significance of 0.05 level. While people of the same genders and occupations have no difference in opinions; therefore, denying the null hypothesis.
3) Problems with an application of Saṅgahavatthu to promote the community participation in waste bank management of Nong Mai Kaen Temple, Nong Lan Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, it is discovered as follows: some people lack knowledge and comprehension regarding waste bank donations; the delay in village cooperation and the work operation, which is still based on a lack of knowledge; the incomprehensive management and persuading of community members to undertake volunteer work as well the conflict resolution in the community. From the interviews, the results revealed in the following aspects: Dāna (giving), where opportunities, knowledge, and development guidelines should be provided; Piyavācā (kindly speech), where a focus is placed on speaking with knowledge as well as exchanging and expressing opinions; Atthacariyā (useful conduct), where the important projects are emphasized, especially one that is called Pan Sa-ard; and Samānattatā (even and equal treatment), which entails taking responsibility for oneself and the public, as well as behaving appropriately and consistently.
