Abstract:
This thesis entitled "A Study of Syntactic Categories of Phrasal verbs in the book of Dhammapada Translated by Daw Mya Tin" had two objectives: 1) to examine the syntactic categories of phrasal verbs in the book of the Dhammapada translated by Daw Mya Tin, and 2) To analyze of syntactic categories of phrasal verbs in the book of the Dhammapada translated by Daw Mya Tin.
The study is a qualitative research in nature focusing on a documentary method by reading and studying related books concerning the topic of the problem. Then researcher collected the information from the books, Documents and the data from the Dhammapada translated by Daw Mya Tin.
The study founded that syntactic categories of English Phrasal verbs are a group of words containing verbs and particles. The phrasal verb was a verb with particle. The Four functions of syntactic categories of English phrasal verbs ware: Intransitive phrasal verb, two-word inseparable transitive phrasal verb, Three-word inseparable transitive phrasal verb, and Separable transitive verb.
The percentage of the syntactic categories of English phrasal verbs based on types and functions in the Dhammapada translated by Daw Mya Tin: 58 Intransitive phrasal verbs = 28.15%, 85 Two-word inseparable transitive phrasal verbs = 41.26%, 33 Three-word inseparable transitive phrasal verbs = 16.01%, 30 Separable transitive phrasal verbs = 14.56%.
