Abstract:
This paper studied the energy efficiency of Ground Source Heat Pumps
(GSHPs) and Hybrid Ground Source Heat Pump Systems used for air-conditioning the
building. The systems were simulated with the Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD)
to evaluate the characteristics of these systems in different working conditions. The
simulations covered all typical climates of Thailand including summer, winter, and
rainy seasons. The heat transfer rate was used to measure the system characteristics.
The more heat rate that increases, the more system efficiency will increase. The
comparison of heat rates in a variety of installation depths is also shown in this paper to
figure out the optimal depth of installation that maximizes the heat rate. The simulation
results showed that the GSHPs power consumption rate is 2,637.4 kWh per year and the
Hybrid GSHPs power consumption rate is 2,649.6 kWh per year. Moreover, the average
Coefficient of Performance (COP) of GSHPs and Hybrid GSHPs are 3.73 and 4.77,
respectively. In conclusion, the GSHPs system has a lower power consumption rate than
the Hybrid GSHPs but the Hybrid GSHPs have a higher Coefficient of Performance
