Abstract:
This research entitled "Suicide: Buddhism-based Moral Solution to Suicide Issues in Thai Society" has three objectives: 1) to study the problem's situations and concepts of suicide decision 2) to study psychosocial factors related to suicide of people in Thai society and 3) to study Buddhism-based Moral Solution to Suicide Issues in Thai Society. From the study, it has been found that: Suicide is caused by the problems and motivation that can be summarized
into 3 main reasons: 1) from social conditions, namely social institutions in which a confused society, competition for dominant. The people in society must struggle to survive. Weaker people are harder to live in society. The result followed is resentment in one's own fortune and actions, finally committed suicide. Family institutions are also an important factor that prompts suicide, 2) From physical condition, those who are at risk or likely to commit suicide mostly people with physical imperfections, disabilities, or people with serious illnesses, no way to cure or are difficult to treat. In the end, life was determined by suicide and 3) from mentality or mental health deterioration, those are psychological disorders which are a result of failure in life whether it is a loss of love, lose one's social status, fame, reputation, cannot handle these tensions. causing him/her to be in a state of sorrow, sadness, melancholy discouraged, hopeless and feeling worthless. They, therefore choose self-destructive methods to avoid problems.
In terms of psychosocial factors that are related to suicide of people in Thai society. From the study found that there are many types of psychosocial factors related to suicide, such as 1) cruel factors 2) loss factors 3) family factors 4) Stress factors from life events 5) Factors affecting the ambient condition and 6) other factors that makes suicidal decisions easier, such as a lack of adaptation to society, negative
self-view and not being confident in one's own ability, lack of self-respect and living with society etc. Lastly, Buddhism-based moral solution to the problem of suicide in Thai society, according to studies, it has been found that the solution to the problem should follow the development process according to the Four Noble Truths, which are divided into 4 development levels as follows: 1) the problem level; that is to reduce the risk of both physical and mental problems which leads to suicide, 2) the mastermind level of the problems; that is the destruction of Tanha, which creates sensual desire, desire of becoming and desire of non-becoming, which are causes of all problems, 3) cessation level of the problems; that is the state of mind absolutely ends desire, which leads to the occurrence of all risk factors and 4) the level of Noble Path, which are 8 development processes to solve suicides according to the Noble Eightfold Path or Threefold Training.
