Abstract:
The study consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the conditions of food security and area management of Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province; 2) to explore the promotion of area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province; and 3) to present a model of house surrounding area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The study used a mixed-methods approach to obtain quantitative data from a sample group of 276 persons. The collected data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation. While qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 key informants and focus group discussions with 9 persons. Explanatory and descriptive approaches were used to analyze the qualitative data.
From the study, the following results are found:
1) The conditions of food security and area management of Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province are as follows: (1) The conditions of food security are overall at a high level with a mean of 3.92. When each aspect is taken into account, all of them are at a high level. Food stability had the greatest mean of 3.99, followed by having sufficient food with a mean of 3.89, having food access with a mean of 3.88 and food utilization with a mean of 3.87; and (2) The factors promoting food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province are overall at a high level with a mean of 3.91. When each aspect is considered, it is discovered that natural and environmental consideration has a mean of 3.99, followed by factors of production with a mean of 3.89, innovation and local wisdom with a mean of 3.88, and community participation with a mean of 3.87. From studying the context of food security of Muang Ta Rot Community, it is found that a model of area management is consistent with living life with moderation, balance, and sustainability based on sufficiency economy philosophy.
2) The promotion of area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province is carried out both inside and outside the community in the following 4 aspects: (1) factors of production; (2) innovation and local wisdom; 3) community participations; and 4) natural and environmental consideration.
3) A model of house surrounding area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province, consists of 6-aspect process as follows: (1) process of managing house surrounding area; (2) providing knowledge on sufficiency economy philosophy; (3) local wisdom; (4) network participation within the community; (5) enhancing the effectiveness of agency support; and (6) an application of a model of the house surrounding area management for creating food security in Muang Ta Rot Community, in which a model is called LIP Model: "L" stands for Leader, with a prototype in the form of a learning place and person who can make decisions in bringing change to his/her area and driving for learning; I stands for Innovation, which in the integration of local wisdom in farming and new innovations such as smart farmer concept with the use of 5G system to manage the area; and P stands for Participation through activities which involve family members and other supporting agencies.
As a result, from studying a model of house surrounding area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province, 2 points on food security are found: 1) Food security includes having food stability, having sufficient food, having food access, and the process of utilizing food sources; and 2) The promotion of area management in the creation of food security includes (1) factors of production; (2) innovation and local wisdom; 3) community participations; and 4) natural and environmental consideration. This LIP Model is a model of house surrounding area management to create food security for Muang Ta Rot Community, which includes having leadership, innovation, and participation.
