Abstract:
The research on "The study of food security from organic agriculture of Yai- Cha Community, Yai Cha Sub-district, Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province" aimed 1) to study the integrated factors of organic farming groups in the Yai Cha community, Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province; 2) to promote the building of food security of organic farming groups of Yai Cha community, Samphran District, Nakhon Pathom Province; and 3) to propose guidelines for sustainable food security of Yai Cha community, Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province. It was a participatory action research. The data collection was based on in-depth interview and focus group discussion. The data analysis was performed by using a triangle technique.
The research results were found that: 1. the integrated factors of organic agriculture were emphasized on the food quality and safety related to producers, consumers, and conservation of natural and environmental resources of the community which consisted of 1) the dependence of farmers concerned with cultivated land and cooperation to perform the various activities; 2) community leaders in building faith to develop the organic agriculture; 3) assistance from government and external agencies; and 4) self-assistance of farmers.
2. The promotion of food security of organic farming groups consisted of 1) to avoid the use of chemicals, chemical fertilizers, pesticides or bio-stimulants in the production process; 2) to increase soil integrity by using compost, green manure, manure, rice husk, rice straw, microorganism, including mulch, mixed crop-livestock farming, humus use, and animal feces through the degradation of soil microorganisms, and 3) to control and eliminate pests by biological, organic chemistry or natural methods from animal husbandry with crops such as cattle, chickens, ducks, and herbivorous insects.
3. The guidelines for building sustainable food security of the community by developing and inheriting organic agriculture knowledge, expanding the results of organic agriculture, building a network, enhancing farmers' adaptive capacity, creating the participation in soil and water care, supporting agencies to use the agricultural land, improving water management efficiently, promoting local plant genetics in cultivation, promoting self-sufficient agriculture, and developing new generation farmers for food sufficiency and sustainability in community
