Everyone needs to have motivation such as motivation in learning the English language. Motivation is considered a part of the affective factors (Gardner, 1985) that would increase a chance for students to get motivated and fulfill students learning orientation (Dornyei, 2001). The purpose of this study is to examine the types and level of students motivation in learning English by 2 main categorized instruments and integrative motivation and investigate demotivation factors that affect students when learning language. There were 200 second-year students who are currently studying in Vocational college and participated in answering the questionnaire adapted from an Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) that was used to measure motivation by the degree of a relevant factors, which was used for evaluation and demotivation questionnaire adapted from Dornyei (2001). The data revealed that the students had high motivation in learning English in both types and instrumental motivation was slightly higher than integrative while demotivational factors that affected students were the lack of knowledge about proper grammar, vocabulary and accent as well as the lack of chance to use English in their daily lives including the unsupportive opinions from their friends and poor teaching pedagogy as well as poor materials used in classroom
