Abstract:
Thai pre-aging adults, 50-59 years old, will constitute the majority of the aging population by 2030. This study aims to understand how Thai pre-aging adults perceived age-friendly environment (PAF) and their attitude towards living in age-friendly environment (ATL) influence their willingness to live in an age-friendly environment (WTL), and the total effects of PAF via ATL on WTL. Applying age-friendly environment concepts introduced by the World Health Organization, the study analyzes how Housing Indoor (HSI), Housing Outdoor (HSO), Transportation and Communication Services (TRC) and Social Participation (SOC) influence PAF. After surveying respondents via Google Forms and testing data normality, researchers analyzed 360 samples using SmartPLS3.3.3 software. The results demonstrated that HSI, TRC and SOC were positively related to PAF, while both PAF and ATL significantly influenced WTL. The direct effect of ATL on WTL was slightly stronger than the total effect of PAF through ATL on WTL. ATL was a partial mediator of the PAF-WTL relationship. However, the direct effect of PAF on ATL was quite high. The findings enable real estate developers to focus on pre-aging adults as a main target, and to prioritize on three main attributes of residential projects for the elderly in Thailand, namely age-supportive innovations and designs, accessible and affordable transportation and communication services, and social participation
