Abstract:
Natural rubber (NR) consists of 94% cis-1, 4 polyisoprenes, and 6% non-rubber components such as proteins,
lipids, sugars, and coloring matters. NR latex has been widely used in many applications, including foams, condoms, and gloves. One of the problems of NR latex is the yellow color of the products. The parameters influencing the yellow
color of NR latex foams were investigated in this study, including NR latex from two Hevea clones (RRIT251 and RRIM600 clones), types of accelerators used in latex compounding (dithiocarbamate and thiurams), drying temperatures
(70°C, 100°C, and 120°C) and the number of leaching NR latex foams with distilled water (05 times). The yellow
color as yellowness index (YI) of the foams was determined by a benchtop spectrophotometer. It was found that NR latex foams made from the RRIM600 clone had a lower YI than the NR latex foams made from the RRIT251 clone.
The low YI was obtained when the foams were produced using zinc-diethyldithiocarbamate (ZDEC) with zinc-2-
mercaptobenzothiazole (ZMBT) as accelerators and were dried at 70°C for 16 h. In addition, when the number of
leaching the foams with distilled water increased, the YI of the foams decreased
