Abstract:
This research aims to examine the level of knowledge and understanding of crime scene investigation amongst police enquiry officers stationed in Nakhon Pathom provincial police region. Population used in this study were 107 police enquiry officers from total 12 police stations in the area of Nakhon Pathom provincial police region. A set of questionnaire was implemented to collect data and a statistical analysis was subsequently applied including percentage, mean and Standard Deviation. Results revealed that police enquiry officers in Nakhon Pathom provincial police region as a whole demonstrated a high level of knowledge and understanding of crime scene investigation which was in accordance with the FBIs Twelve-Step Process of evidence collection. Steps that most police enquiry officers perceived correctly were as follows: Step 1Preparation, Step 3Secure and Protect the Scene, Step 4Initiate Preliminary Survey, Step 5-Evaluate Physical Evidence Possibilities, Step 6Prepare Narrative Description, Step 8Prepare Diagram/Sketch of Scene, Step 10Record and Collect Physical Evidence, Step 11Conduct Final Survey and Step 12Releasing the Crime Scene, whereas other three steps were not likely perceived correctly by most police enquiry officers which included Step 2Approach the Scene, Step 7Depict Scene Photographically and Step 9Conduct Detailed Search. Suggestions as guidelines for crime scene investigation development included that annual training courses, budget and human resources should be more provided.
