A correlation of climatic factors and dengue reported cases in Southern Lam Dong Province, Vietnam, 2007-2017
Abstract:
A retrospective study was implemented to examine the correlation of climatic factors and dengue reported cases in Southern Lam Dong Province from 2007 to 2017 and to validate the predictive model using correlatively climatic factors for number of dengue cases in 2017 by training data set from 2007 to 2016. Spearmans Rank test was used to evaluate the correlation of climatic factors and dengue reported cases during the study period. A seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) model using training data set from 2007 to 2016 ; correlative dengue cases factors ; the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and improved Box-Jenkins estimators were used to predict dengue cases for 2017. Data analysis was done with the Analysis ToolPak in Excel and SPSS Statistics version 16, a software package used for logical batched and non-batched statistical analysis. Results were that the working age population (aged 20 to 60) and those living in Bao Loc City were at high risk of dengue. Serotype 1 dengue (DENV-1) and dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2) were the primary types responsible for dengue transmission in Southern Lam Dong Province, Vietnam. The correlation was found between minimum temperature (r=0.543, p < 0.000), average temperature (r=0.379, p<0.000) average relative humidity (r=0.291, p <0.000) and dengue cases were found at lag 1 month. The SARIMA (1,2,1) x (1,1,1)12 model at lag 1 month was the most appropriate for predicting dengue cases. The SARIMA predictive model could anticipate dengue trends by one month, which providing useful time to develop strategies against outbreaks
