Guidelines for Developing the Capacity to Create Product Identity for Sustainable Strengthening of Indigo Dyed Cotton Weaving Group in Baan Phonkoe Thakon Sub-district, Akat Amnuai District, Sakon Nakon Province
Abstract:
This research was a participatory action research aimed 1) to examine the context and potential to create product identity of Indigo Dyed Cotton Weaving Group in Baan Phonkoe; and 2) to analyze guidelines for developing the capacity to create product identity in order to establish sustainable strength. The data were collected from 20 members of community enterprise group selected by purposive sampling. Focus group, observation and in-depth interview were applied to collect the data. The results suggested that the context of Indigo Dyed Cotton Weaving Group in Baan Phonkoe was in a community enterprise group which was divided into 15 subgroups, such as Cremation Aid Group, Health Promotion Temple, and Sufficiency Agricultural Group to reduceexpenses-increase income which was a learning resource for sufficiency agriculture of the community. This Sufficiency Agricultural Group was managed in several aspects to be a model in sufficiency economy such as, Communitys Waste Management Group, Communitys Drug Abuse Management Group and Village Cremation Fund. Moreover, communitys innovations were also created and developed, such as Fertilizer Production Group, bio-fermented water, MushroomFarming Group, and Indigo Dyed Cotton Weaving Group. In terms of capacity to create product identity, it was found that the group needed to create their own product identity which should be generated from collaboration among the group members and should also be created according to the history of the village. In addition, in the process of creating the identity, every memberbrainstormed and told a story of Baan Phonkoe village in order to figure out the identity of the product to create the pattern which was meaningful and relevant to the villages name. As a result, the members decided to name the new pattern as Mark Koe which can help increase the value of communitys woven cloth.
