Abstract:
This study evaluated factors that generated construction wastes and assessed the environmental risks at the Green Line Railway - Saphanmai station. Data on types of construction wastes, their volumes and environmental impacts were collected based on site surveys and questionnaire results of construction personnel and people residing within the construction area. The most important factor contributing to generation of construction wastes was found to be carelessness and lack of work efficiency (x = 4.00, SD = 0.98). Steel scrap was the most generated construction waste (x = 4.03, SD = 0.69). The total waste generation was 7.53 tons/month. Traffic jam was found to be the most environmental impact from the Station construction (x = 4.45, SD = 0.70). Improving the technicians skills and supervising appropriate uses of construction materials are recommended to reduce construction wastes generation. Proper communication to the local residents about traffic situation and effective storage of construction wastes should help to reduce the environmental impacts.
