Abstract:
This study was a qualitative research aiming to examine components of learning skills in
the 21st century of elementary students in three southern border provinces. The research was
divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 was the analysis and synthesis of information from documents,
concepts, theories and related studies. Meanwhile, phase 2 was a focus group of key informants,
who were responsible for or worked for the educational institutions, participating in the active
learning management program in order to upgrade educational quality under supervision of the
Office of Primary Educational Service Area; Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat Provinces. The
participants included 3 schools administrators, 4 teachers and 3 educational supervisors. The
research instrument was a list of documents using for the focus group, and data were analyzed
with content analysis method.
The research findings revealed that the components of learning skills in the 21st century of
elementary students in the three southern border provinces included 7 items and 33indicators: 1)
discretionary thinking and problem solving skill with 7 indicators, 2) creative and innovative
thinking skills containing 4 indicators, 3) information, media and technology skills comprising of 3
indicators, 4) communication and interaction skills with 4 indicators, 5) living and profession
skills with 5 indicators, 6) cultural and paradigmatic difference understanding skills covering 4
indicators and 7) moral and virtuous skills with 6 indicators.
