Abstract:
The thesis aims at studying the characteristics of the style of satire in Lao Khamhom's literary works. The study reveals that the style of satire in Lao Khamhom' s literary works starts from the use of words in from of puns and word-plays. He also uses the technique of amplification to intensify the tone of satire. Besides, he creates a lot of humourous imagery and realistic imagery of hardship and sufferings of the people in his works. These techniques lead to the moving effect of his satire and a very humane understanding of the message. He also employs other literary elements such as the technique of tale-narration, the use of characters' names, the story' s title and the description of setting which all enhance realistic beauty of the works. The narrator in his works clearly expresses a tone of satire on people, the religious institution and the social changes in the country. As a 'protest of the people', Lao Khomhom's works can be considered very effective. The study helps to illustrate how the success of his works is mainly achieved through the technique of satire.
