Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study the instructors opinions concerning to the studio art instruction in visual arts programs in public higher education institutions. The research emphasized on instructional planning, instructional procedures, and measurement and evaluation. The population of this study was comprised of eighteen visual art studio instructors who are the accomplishable artists and have experiences in teaching visual arts programs in public higher education institution at least ten years. The research methodology was researchers structured interview. The obtain data from interviewing were analyzed by summarize the main context and describe in written statements. It was found that : the purpose of teaching the visual arts studio in the Fine Arts program in the government university was to produce a bachelor who earned knowledge, ability in art creation, optimist, ability in analysis, creativity, and ability in art research in order to apply in career. Hence, the teaching in visual art studio should be the systematical planning in order to make the teaching accomplish to the aim of program. The instructional planning should be systemized. The instructors should consider to knowledge development, understanding, attitude, and skill of each students including the students skillful and their interested. The instructional planning was the technique skill training. Therefore, the objective of the basic level of teaching was provide basic skill and art knowledge in the right way. The instructional method should be demonstration technique, which were comprised of introducing, assisting, and commenting. These should be emphasized on practical training as basic in order to develop to the advanced learning. In the advanced learning, the instructors change employed analyzing, criticizing, suggesting, and evaluating the value of student works. The study was also emphasized on the self planning and developing in art creativity. The students instructors assign wide topic to allow more freedom for students to discover individual art style. The students were evaluated, and be criticized by various angles of instructor group. The evaluation criterions were the completion of the work, the harmony of concept, forms, techniques, and art process development. The art thesis in the last year of the study was the conclusion of students art creativity, which clarify in each student art style which comprised of the paper work and art work. The evaluation mainly considers to the art work supplemented by the paper work and the art exhibition. The research recommendation is that the important of visual art studio is students understand, and appreciate art; the instructors teach the students to understand what is art, and combine practical training with aesthetic in order to be the foundation to create the valuable art works and lead to determine the value of the art works exactly.
