Abstract:
The purpose of this Cross - Sectional Survey was to study the factors influencing depression in uncontrolled diabetes (type II) by using PRECEDE Model. The total sample size was Three hundred and Ninety patients with uncontrolled diabetes (type II) at 35 years old and over in Bangkok. A Multi-Stage Random Sampling method and interview forms were used for data collection. Data were analyzed in average value, Chi-Square test was used for Correlation Analysis, Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis s was used for prediction forecasts. The results showed that 25.1% of the patients had suffered depression. The factors demonstrated statistical significance (p <0.05) related to depression were gender ,levels of HbA1c, complications from disease such as: kidney system , nervous system/ peripheral artery , coronary artery , family history of : depression , hypertension and heart disease, dietary, stress management behavior ,medication habits , social support from family members, and social support from home visitation services and medical services accessibility. The multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the factors influencing depression in uncontrolled diabetes (type II) were complications disease such as, kidney system, family history of , heart disease, social support from home visitation services , medical services accessibility , gender ,levels of HbA1c and stress management behaviors. The study result could be used as a guideline for surveillance among patients suffering depression in uncontrolled diabetes (type II) for the prevention and resolution of these problem. The promotion of dietary guidelines, stress management techniques, proper medication protocols and enhanced social support programs can increase positive outcome.
