The high school seniors and career indecision: causes and consequences
Abstract:
This study of High School Seniors and Career Indecision: Causes and Consequences is an independent analysis of a contemporary topic in applied marketing, which is aimed at applied marketing knowledge. The purpose of this research is to identify the influencing factors for consumers in decision making in order to develop existing activities for career counselors. Moreover, the study also analyzes value-based segmentation among grade twelve grade high school students. Thailand has supported the development of education for youth under the Ministry of Education Regulatory Act since 1996. The government deeply understands that the education of youth in the present is a powerful force to drive the future of a nation, especially in countries such as Thailand which have ageing societies. Surprisingly, Thailand still suffers from the large number of teenagers (age 15 18) moving into the labor market, but also from the high unemployment rate among graduated students, which has continued to rise by an average of 16% from 2011 to 2017. The main problem involved being unaware of their self-aptitude. In fact, many young adults at present have never seriously considered their future career and seem to be stuck with whatever personal ability is causing loss of meaning in their lives. Basically, they have no capacity to select their own career. The methodology used to conduct this research involved exploratory research and descriptive research. The exploratory research included secondary data from various credible sources and in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and careers counselors. The samples included grade twelve high school students who planned to study further in university. Data collection has been distributed for offline channels (185 respondents). From the research, the factors used in making decisions about career or faculty amongst decisive students and indecisive students were statistically different. The top reason for indecisiveness among respondents considering a career was lack of self-efficacy. The factor analyses were run on key attributes, which resulted in seven categories, followed by cluster analysis, which resulted in four clusters as follows: Status Enthusiast, Self-actualization needs, Curious passions and Almost decisive decisions.
