Application of CNG and its emissions for large diesel-engine trucks
Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the. application of using Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG) in heavy-duty trucks. Besides, the performance and emission
between CNG dedicated engine and Diesel engine are compared. Diesel engines were
dedicated to natural gas usage. This investigation used two trucks standard driving
pattern of the Pollutions Control Department (PCD). A chassis dynamometer test
provided the data of power, consumption and exhaust emission. The results show that
the output power of natural gas trucks has lower maximum power than that of diesel
trucks 15.00.% and 27.99% respectively. The consumption is 1.76 and 1.77 times
lower than that of natural gas trucks. THC, NO, and CO2 emissions of natural gas
trucks is higher except the PM.
