Abstract:
The objectives of this research are 1) to study the learning processes of youth through the creation of dramatic activites for developing democracy ways, and 2) to propose a model of learning styles for youth . The quantitative research method was data collection: surveys, interviews, participant observation, non-participant observation, and self-reflection. The participants were youth are 16-25 who created a drama production through 3 types of democratic powers: 1) Vertical Democratic Power.2)Horizontal Democratic Power.and 3) Mixed Democratic Power, in order to find the problems and factors that effect the learning process. Afterward, the initial findings were presented to a group discussion, then to a seminar of speicalists in all relevant areas, before formulating the model of learning styles. The results can be summarized as follows: 1.The learning process has 3 steps are involved: 1) Pre-Production, 2) Production, and 3) Evaluation; 1.1 Learning through the creation of drama activities conforms to the theory of Constructivism. There are five steps that all types have in common: 1)An Orientation Stage : the emphasize is on youth participation, or group engagement especially during the pre-production.2)An Elicitation of Prior Knowledge Stage:The prior knowledge of roles and responsibilities are retrieved and applied to the democratic ways. 3)An Idea Restructure Stage: the independent theatre group are obviously dominant at this stage, both emphasizing the issue of altruism. 4)An Application of Ideas Stage: focus on teamwork, which leads to compromising, accepting others points of view, understanding, and respecting one another. 5)A Review Stage: this stage intensely emphasizes self-esteem and a review of the entire body of knowledge through various evaluations. 1.2 Learning Problems arise when participants do not have the same knowledge or technological background. 1.3 Factors affecting learning include the democratic power structure, individual thought, and technological background. 2.The model of this learning is presented as PLUS+ (PLUS PLUS), in which P stands for Practice: the youth theatre group using vertical democratic power should practice participation and engagement by expressing ideas, mutual respect, and listening to others. On the other hand, the horizontal democratic power group should practice giving each other space, avoid getting too close, and taking other members for granted, in order to exercise more vertical power. Furthermore, every group should practice giving feedback in a safe environment to enhance group participation and maintain strong relationships within the group. L stands for learning about democracy ways: youth should learn about the moral values of honesty and responsibility and learn to have sympathy to create good interpersonal relationships.US means the goal of learning to work together and accepting differences among people in society. + (PLUS) is defined as a mixed democratic power.
