Biodiversity of selected pleosporales from dicotyledons
Abstract:
The fungal specimens associated with various dicotyledonous hosts in terrestrial habitats were collected from China, Italy, Russia and Thailand. They were comprehensively studied and identified. These materials were used to establish a natural placement of the species in the class Dothideomycetes, based on morphology and multigene phylogeny using internal transcribed spacer (ITS), large subunit nuclear rDNA (LSU), small subunit nuclear rDNA (SSU), translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF1-α), Beta-tubulin gene (β-tub), calmodulin (CAL), gyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and RNA polymerase II gene (RPB2) sequence data.
This thesis mainly provides illustrated descriptions of newly collected pleosporalean fungi from various substrates collected from China, Italy, Russia and Thailand. The fungi are accommodated in 10 families. New taxa described include 15 new species, 16 previously known pleosporalean species. This study also establishes possible links between the asexual and sexual morphs and the taxonomy of many species from different genera is revisited based on both morphology and molecular phylogeny. This study is an additional taxonomic contribution where we recover novel saprobic pleosporalen taxa associated with dicotyledonous hosts. All data presented herein are based on morphological comparisons coupled with phylogenetic analyses of multi genes to better understand the taxonomic placements and infer their evolutionary relationships...
