Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to develop a decision support system for statistical method selection in accordance with researcher or users need. The users are classified into two levels. Level I. Users having the research problem and objectives who need to select types of statistical analysis. The system will guide the users to make decision for selecting type of statistical analysis under the guidance of research objectives. Level II. Users who already know the type of statistical analysis but need to select the statistical method. This system is limited to problems of hypothesis testing, comprising of testing of population parameters, distributions and relationship among variables. The developed system is a decision support system for selection of appropriate statistical method of research, but not for analyzing data. This system is advantageous for users with less statistical knowledge in selecting statistical method. However this group of users will have to learn more about the methods. For users with more advanced statistical knowledge, the advantage of using this system is to use as a tool for assuring the appropriateness of the tentatively selected statistical method. This system was developed using TURBO PASCAL 6.0 and must be used only on microcomputer with VGA color monitor.
